The prisons consists ofPrisons have many mentally ill inmates for several reasons. One reason is many have experienced some form of trauma in their lifetime. While some get the treatment they need, others don't, resulting in them becoming the assailantassailants. The next reason is due to age relatedage-related factors. Many; many offenders are “older” in age and suffer from different psychiatric disorders. Based off working in this field the, issues ofsuch as being over crowded, having no privacy, living in filthy conditions, having no control, being “tamed”, having minimumminimal social activity, withand security issues can all contribute to making one mentally ill or depressed. Many of the imatesinmates I worked with expressed how being in a cell for long periods “drove them crazy “. Lastcrazy”. The last reason is the lack of mental health hospitals.
