Hi, please find the final part of my personal statmentstatement :
I am attracted to personal essays because they allow both lyric intensity and narrative development, create space for doubt, encourage unanticipated paths of thought, and reveal the way some things lead to others. I am fascinated by the possibility that is enabled by this genre of finding, through the gaze, the world in a single object, as Clarice Lispector does in "The Egg and the Chicken" or Virginia Woolf does in “The Death of the Moth”.
I believe that when I am writing about my past, I am always reinventing my past. Therefore, in my dissertation, I would like to approach the collection of essays as autofiction. As Serge Doubrovsky states, autofiction “acknowledges the fallibility of memory, and the impossibility of truthfully recounting a life story”. It is precisely in this that its power lies: in the ability to reconfigure the past and give it new meanings.
