Many studies have been done to control BSR disease in the oil palm plantation, it includes. They include the use of fungicide and other chemical compounds. But the methods seem not to be effective in controlling Ganoderma boninense. A recent study on the use of the phenolic compound to suppress this disease has shown positive results in inhibition of growth and enzyme production of the pathogen. One of the phenolic compounds identified is benzoic acid (Surendran et al., 2017). Benzoic acid is a great inhibitor to various fungi such as Fusarium, Rhizoctenia solani, and Verticillium dahlia (Omar et al., 2018). It is involved in lignin synthesis and plant defense by the production of defense enzymes in the plants (Surendran et al., 2018).
