Williams's key theme is Real vs. Unreal, so principalthe main characters of the play represent people from Williams's real life. For example, Blanche represents oreither his mother or his sister. It canmay be his mother, because she was crazy, and it canmay be his sister because, since childhood, she had lived in an imaginary world and eventually went mad. Maybe Stanley represents Williams's father, because he was as hard and cruel as this hero is. Moreover, I think Stella represents Williams himself, because he cared very much for his sister, but once hehe really offended her very muchonce. This story containsfeatures the "American Dream." I think Blanche's imaginary world was built on this idea. On top of that, the "American Dream" plays a great role in the theme of Real vs. Unreal theme.
