The most important question of the survey is the last one, as it gives somean idea of the qualifications, expertise, and skills most valued by respondents. About half of all surveyed perceive aspeople consider technical expertise to be the most important part of translation, the technical expertise – that– this was anthe opinion of as much as 51 percent of the respondents. Relatively A relatively similar number of respondersrespondents recognized as the essential,an excellent command of the foreign language and both source and target culture expertise (19 and 14 percent respectively) as essential. Translation expertise nearly took almost the last place on the survey. Only 9 percent of respondents perceiveperceived it as the most important aspect of translating. The last placespot was taken by high proficiency in mother tongue with the result(7 percent of 7 percentrespondents).
ReviewedThe reviewed results of the survey contradict with previously described theories which stressesstressed the value and familiarity of methodology of translation, theory, and translation techniques. In contrast to aforementioned authors [Hejwowski, 2001; Marchwiński, 2007; Pieńkos, 1999, 2003], active translators value the expertise of the field they translatingtranslate in.
