“Diabetes is a chronic disorder of glucose metabolism and is a major cause of heart disease and end-stage renal disease in European populations, the single biggest cause of preventable blindness, the leading cause of non-traumatic lower extremity amputation and major cause of premature mortality (interact.edu).” Diabetes is a disease that aroundapproximately 371 million people around the world currently suffer from, and out of that number, 187 million of them do not even know that they have the disease. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), diabetes is a disease caused by the insufficiency of the body to produce, store and use glucose, which is the reason why current research is being done in order to put an end to this chronic disease that affects over 371 million human beings on a day to day basis.
