Malaria iswas responsible for an estimated 584,000 deaths in 2013. It is caused by the protozoan parasite of genus Plasmodium and transmitted by the female Anopheles mosquito. So far, only 5 of the 170 species of this parasite have been found whichthat are the cause of disease in humans. They consist of Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium knowlesi, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium vivax, and Plasmodium malariae. Plasmodium falciparum is the most dangerous of all and can even lead to death.
