The characteristics of Longbridge
Longbridge is an area of south-west Birmingham. Unlike Handsworth, Longbridge has a small ethnic minority population: only 6.8% of the ward's population consists of ethnic minorities.
St. Modwen’s Longbridge story began in 2001 when it was selected as a development partner of surplus land at the site. The company set about transforming Longbridge into a mixed use, high quality urban environment.
The completion of the Longbridge Innovation Centre and Devon Way helped to reinvigorate employment in the local area.
The Bournville college cCollege was established in 1913 by George Cadbury to catepr forvide education for the local population, that included the workforce of the nearby Cadbury chocolate and confectionery factory. The expansion took place during the 1960s, and in 2011 the college occupied its new purpose-built campus in Longbridge with a capacity for 15,000 students, and 4.2 acres of grounds on the site of the former MG Rover automobile factory, that closed in 2005.
At present, residents can enjoy such amenities as the newly opened Marks and Spencer or shops like high street stores including Poundland, Mountain Warehouse, Holland & Barrett, Smyths Toys and Boots, plus a dedicated 1,200 space multi-storey and a 500 space car park.
