My hypothesis was supported by the data we gathered online and during the class’s experiment. In the cold water, the goldfish should breathe slow and in the hot water the fish should breathe faster. This occurs because, the fish is cold blooded, so the water temperature will either slow down or speed up the fish’s metabolism. When the fish’s metabolism is slow the fish doesn’t require as much oxygen, so it doesn’t breathe as fast. On the other hand, if the fish is in warmer water the fish’s metabolism will speed up, which requires the fish to breathe faster. But our class had odd results, in fact, the cold water had more opercular openings than the control group, which was off. The hot water should have the highest abmount of opercular openings, the cold water should have the lowest amount of opercular openings and in the control group, the opercular openings should be somewhere in the middle of both the cold and hot water.
