The time I applied to the Masters in Educational Technology (MAET) program at Michigan State University (MSU), I talked to myself thabout what I am going to achieve after completing this program. I already have two master’s degrees (Biochemistry and Educational Psychology), Ontario teacher’s certification and Michigan teacher’s certification. So what is my goal that brought me to the MAET program? The answer was technology because I had a keen interest in exploring technology but it was the area in which I was not proficient. My primary goal as I wrote in my graduate school application was to bring success and confidence in my students by encouraging creative and innovative ways of learning by the use of technology. My other goal was to address the needs of all the learners by differentiating through technology. I was hoping that MAET wioulld help me to achieve my goals.
At that time, my goals were invisible, or I was not clear thregatrding how this MAET program wioulld help me to achieve these goals. While reviewing my goals, I see that I still have the same goals, but now I am more focused, theand my goals are more visible and advanced.
This MAET program is a milestone in my life as it has opened many doors for me, academically and professionally. My beliefs and perceptions about the technology have changed. It made me think missional ftowards a big goal with clear vision. I have now begun consistently to evaluate my teaching practices and beliefs about technology integration in my teaching. It made me a more receptive, mindful and a motivated teacher. Now I feel that I am better equipped to face the challenges of the professional world, and that would helps tome bring success and confidence in my students.
Continuing with the same vigor, passion and integrity, I see myself growing and advancing my knowledge of innovative technologies as my goals are gettingow visible. In addition to my previous goals, --of bringing the success and confidence in my students by using technology and using technology for differentiation, --I wanted to improve and prove myself as a leader who would support other teachers in her professional learning network. I envision myself as a university professor teaching my students by keeping Technology, Pedagogy, Content, and Knowledge (TPACK) relationships in mind. Most importantly, I sawee myself continuing with my education and earning a doctorate in technology.
In conclusion, no matter what my content area is, I will design the lessons in a way to incorporate the needs of all learners, use students -centered content, improve my pedagogical practices and incorporate technology in an appropriate way to bring 21st-century education into my class. From all perspectives, my goal is to give my best to the community and make altruism my chief value for life.
