In her study, Zreq (2006) examined several discourse functions inby Libyan Arabic speakers. The sample of the study totaled 60 subjects (36 female and 24 male). To achieve the purposes of the study, natural observations forf the subjects was the main means for data collection. The study identified 17 functions for Libyan Arabic code- switching. These included the situational functions (e.g. setting, participants, and topic), conversational functions (e.g. person specification, quotation, exclamations, reiteration, message qualification, personalization, and question alteration,),.
